Emergency Department

The Emergency Department is a fully equipped, five bed Critical Access emergency facility open 24/7 with compassionate, board-certified physicians and licensed registered nurses who maintain additional training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) and Aeromedical Services. Our goal is to evaluate, stabilize, and diagnose patients for effective treatment. For more critical conditions, our goal is to evaluate, stabilize, diagnose, and prepare the patient for transfer to a higher level trauma center.

Up-to date with state-of-the-art equipment including bedside ultrasound, video guided laryngoscope, EZ Interosseous Access, Alaris Wireless Intravenous Pumps, heated High-Flow oxygen delivery, Ranger blood/fluid warming systems and Centralized Wireless Cardiac Telemetry. We strive to provide our patients with the outstanding quality care they need. The Emergency Room provides an active Sexual Assault Response Team providing support and forensic exams for victims of Sexual Assault.

The BBAHC Emergency Department initiates the Certified Air Ambulance Service for the region. Air Ambulance Medical Escorts include RNs, EMTs, and occasionally Physicians. The medical air transport team is tailored to meet the needs of the patient who is being transported.

Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation manages Kanakanak Hospital, a critical access facility, which is Joint Commission accredited, receives Health and Human Services funding, and is covered through the Federal Tort Claim Act with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including liability for medical malpractice claims, for its officers, board members, employees, and certain health profession contractors and health profession volunteers. Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation is recognized by the US Government and State of Alaska as a tribal organization under PL 93-638.
