November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month
During November, BBAHC raises awareness about the importance of preventing, detecting and treating the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide - lung cancer. Simply put, if you have lungs, you are at risk for lung cancer. Even if you have never smoked, exposure to second-hand smoke, third-hand smoke, occupational hazards and air pollution are all lung cancer risk factors. If you are a current or previous smoker, age 50 to 80 years old, ask your provider if you meet the criteria for a lung cancer prevention scan at BBAHC. A low dose CT scan is available at Kanakanak Hospital and may save your life. Trying to quit smoking or vaping? Get support through BBAHC's Tobacco Prevention Program or call Alaska's Tobacco Quit Line at 1-800-QUIT-NOW for information about Quit Line services. The Quit Line provides tobacco counseling and medications free of charge.
