TB Education & Testing, Manokotak, September 9

BBAHC and the State of Alaska, Division of Public Health, will be visiting Manokotak to provide Tuberculosis education and testing on September 9th.

Why is this important?

  • TB spreads through the air.  A person with infectious active TB can spread TB germs to people around them.
  • Anyone can get TB.  Testing positive is not a reflection of someone's choices or character.
  • There is no shame in being tested for TB.  Knowing your status helps protect you, your family, and our community.
  • Testing helps identify infection early.  Health care providers can determine whether you have inactive TB or active TB disease and provide an appropriate treatment.
  • Testing can prevent future illness.  Treating inactive TB can prevent it from developing into active TB disease later.
  • Testing helps protect others.  Identifying people who may have been exposed to someone with active TB disease may help prevent additional cases and limit the spread within the community.
  • TB is treatable.  No one should be afraid to seek testing and treatment.
Testing is one of the ways we look out for one another.
We hope to see you at the clinic or the school on Wednesday, September 9th.
