October is Pedestrian Safety Month

The BBAHC Environmental Health Department would like to remind you that it is Pedestrian Safety Month in October.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:
  • In 2022, 7,522 pedestrians were killed, and more than 67,000 pedestrians were injured nationwide.
  • That breaks down to approximately one pedestrian being killed every 70 minutes, and one pedestrian being injured every eight minutes.
During the month, BBAHC will be posting Safety Tips for Drivers and Simple Steps to Walking Safety.  Please check out those resources!  As it gets dark, remember to Be Safe, Be Seen, Be Reflective.  Consider using reflective tape, headlamps, or other wearable safety lights to let drivers know you are there.  Call the BBAHC Environmental Health Department at (907) 842-3396 to receive reflective tape for children and families.  The tape can be applied to coats, backpacks, and more!
