Learn About BHA Program Services

The BBAHC Behavioral Health Division's Behavioral Health Aide (BHA) Program is available to provide these essential, culturally relevant substance use and behavioral health services in rural and remote communities across our region:

  • Community education and prevention, such as substance use prevention presentations and wellness activities.
  • Prevention in schools, such as presentations on bullying, kindness/sharing, healthy habits, and storytelling.
  • Cultural activities, such as grass basket and fan weaving, beading, Native food preparation/processing, and skin sewing.
  • Alcohol and drug assessments.
  • Village-based 12-week substance use outpatient/aftercare treatment program.
  • Referrals to Behavioral Health Mental Health Clinicians, for mental health services and crisis interventions.
  • Support groups, such as grief and healing, recovery aftercare, life skills, and healthy coping strategies.

Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation manages Kanakanak Hospital, a critical access facility, which is Joint Commission accredited, receives Health and Human Services funding, and is covered through the Federal Tort Claim Act with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including liability for medical malpractice claims, for its officers, board members, employees, and certain health profession contractors and health profession volunteers. Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation is recognized by the US Government and State of Alaska as a tribal organization under PL 93-638.
