Laboratory

• Stay hydrated! It’s easier for the Phlebotomist to find your veins if you drink plenty of water.
• Fasting labs: If the doctor instructed you to fast, make sure you don’t eat or drink anything except for water for 8-12 hours before the collection.
• Wear comfortable, loose clothing that can be rolled up or removed to access your arm.
• Bring your ID. You will need to register at the front desk before getting lab work done. 
• Ensure that any sample you are bringing to the lab is labeled with your full name and date of birth, as well as the date and time the sample was collected.
• Always follow the instructions provided to you by your doctor so the results are accurate.

Special Collections:

• Glucose Tolerance Testing: This is a fasting test that will take approximately 2 hours and 3 separate blood draws. After the first draw, you will be given a sweet drink, then drawn again in 1 hour, and 1 hour after that.
• 24-hour Urine Collection: Use the collection hat (urine collection container) provided to collect urine, it’s easier than trying to aim for the opening of the jug. Keep the jug of urine refrigerated at all times to avoid overgrowth of bacteria. When bringing the jug to the lab, make sure it is labeled with your full name, date of birth, start date/time, and stop date/time. Collection should start AFTER your first urination in the morning—this will also be your start time. The next morning, you will collect your first urination of the day—this will be your stop time, around 24 hours.

As a courtesy to our community and local businesses, the BBAHC Laboratory performs chain-of-custody urine collections for Employment and Work-Related Incidents.

Instructions for External Employees: 

• Call ahead to schedule a drug screen collection appointment. (exceptions for accidents and other after-hours collections)
• Bring your legal I.D. and Referral Form. (if not sent ahead by 3rd party agency)
• Check-In with Registration prior to visiting the Laboratory.
• Come to the appointment ready to provide a urine collection. (stay hydrated!)

Instructions for External Employers:

• Set up an account with a 3rd party agency. (Beacon, CRL, MedTOX, Quest, LabCorp, etc.)
• When an employee needs a drug screen, contact that agency for a referral.
• Do not send employees to the hospital without a referral from your 3rd party agency.

The Laboratory cannot provide results to you.
